SCI FI Announces Caprica
------------------------
SCI FI Channel announced the development of Caprica, a spinoff
prequel of its hit Battlestar Galactica, in presentations to
advertisers in New York on April 26. Caprica would come from
Galactica executive producers Ronald D. Moore and David Eick,
writer Remi Aubuchon (24) and NBC Universal Television Studio.
Caprica would take place more than half a century before the
events that play out in Battlestar Galactica. The people of
the Twelve Colonies are at peace and living in a society not
unlike our own, but where high-technology has changed the
lives of virtually everyone for the better.
But a startling breakthrough in robotics is about to occur,
one that will bring to life the age-old dream of marrying
artificial intelligence with a mechanical body to create the
first living robot: a Cylon. Following the lives of two
families, the Graystones and the Adamas (the family of
William Adama, who will one day become the commander of the
Battlestar Galactica), Caprica will weave together corporate
intrigue, techno-action and sexual politics into television's
first science fiction family saga, the channel announced.
ie. the same over-sexed, over-serious, boring garbage as the other one
(probably with the same dreadful camerawork).
Another nail in the coffin of the PROPER Battlestar Galactica. :-(

It's hardly appropriate on a board devoted to SW to call someone a geek
or fanboy. But when you write shit like that, it's hard to think of

LOTS of fans of Star Wars are / were also fans of the original
Battlestar Galactica - it WAS called "Star Wars for TV" for a reason.
Some of those will like the new version and some will hate it ...

"_Some_ will hate it . . ." At least you didn't say "many." But I'd
say that among all the people who watched BG before the new series
debuted a couple of years ago, there are probably on a few hardcore
geeks that prefer the old series to the new.
It will be interesting to watch the sales of the new comic book series
that will be debuting this year, both a classic and a new series. My
suspicion is that everything else being equal (the quality of the
writing and art, pricing, and availability) the classic will outsell
the new in the comic shops, which are frequented by the kind of people
who prefer camp to serious drama.

For some silly reason some, rather useless, newsreader applications
drop anything inside the square [ ] from the subject when someone
replies to it.
Maybe I should try curly { } next time.

Yeah, that is part of the downside of google groups. They strip off
bracketed tags which wreaks real havoc in groups that have used them
for years. Take a look at alt.fan.pratchett for a group that it
really pisses off.
For the most part I like google products but this is one they really
botched several times.

Here's why I got on your case: you posted useful information, yet
followed it with a very negative assumption about a show that has yet
to air. Since you obviously hate the new BSG and you're not shy about
voicing it, how can you possibly expect an unbiased response from
people like myself who think that the new BSG is better?

As if he's got a real life to attend to. He regularly repeats this
whenever he paints himself into a corner and can't be bothered to
apologize or admit making a mistake. Search the strings "i really
can't be bothered" or "i can't be bothered" author:anybody in google
